Root Veggies #1

I made this design with a kitchen backsplash or kitchen wall tile in mind. I imagined a home-owner in the kitchen preparing a meal for the family with healthy vegetables. When I thought of the veggies growing I realized that my unique method of making tiles could show not only the visible portions of the veggies but also the underground parts. So I picked all root vegetables plus a strawberry fruit for diversity. I also showed a couple of worms that contribute to the growth of the plants. I would have included the other micro-organisms and fungus and stuff too if I could have figured out how because they are also essential to the growth of our food and our lives. I like to think of our connections to these essential but unseen parts of our lives. 

I like to think that a cook would feel a connection to the source of the nourishment for the family when this image is seen.

This mural set is about 18" wide and 12" tall. 

I put a red background just for fun. 

This mural set can be permanently mounted to a wall with mastic and 1/8" grout gaps. Alternately, this mural set can be removably mounted on ay clean, flat painted wall or surface (including other tiles) using 3M Command Strips. 3M claims, and it has been my experience, that these strips are surprisingly strong and yet can be removed without any damage to the wall wallboard (like nail holes) or wall paint. 

I liked this pattern so much when it was first made that I put another version (not this actual set) of it in my shower to view every day.
